MEDITERRANEAN PLANTS IN DALMATIAN CUISINE
Mountains and the sea are nowhere as dramatically linked as in central Dalmatia. The mountains overhanging the coastal borders have always been an obstacle for communication with the interior. The roads carved into the bedrock were used to transport salt, as valuable as gold, and wine, which had been cultivated for generations. The mountains also provided assistance in food storage during the summer months, offering a myriad of ice caves, as well as unlimited quantities of wild plants that have enabled the development of a specific Mediterranean cuisine in this area. Just as these two extremes are interwoven in the real history of Dalmatian gastronomy, you will experience in this tour the same two extremes. You will get to know the mountains, their beauty and their cruelty, as well as the wealth of flora and fauna. On the coast you will use these in the kitchen, just like our ancestors did.
