Paradise beaches and bays
Covering 55 percent of the surface of the island of Hvar, the municipality of Jelsa and its surrounding settlements offer pristine bays and beaches that stretch to the east, south and north of the island. Located near Jelsa. Grebišće beach is one of the most beautiful on the island. It is a sandy beach with plenty of infrastructure and a beautiful pine wood where you can enjoy the shade during the summer heat. It is ideal for families with children because of the shallow sea and fine sand
St. John’s church and square
The octagonal church from the end of the 17th century is characterized by a variety of stylistic features. The miniature, baroque St. John’s church, located on a hidden “pjaca” among tall houses, is one of the most beautiful monuments in Jelsa. The curch was one of the two centers around which the future settlement would develop, so the oldest houses were preserved there, including those of the boatmen of Jelsa. The square in front of the church is the most beautiful outdoor stage in Jelsa on which cultural events like concerts, plays and promotions are held during summer
The Dobrović House
The Dobrović House is located on St. John’s square in the old town center of Jelsa and represents one of the best examples of neoclassical residential architecture. The permanent exhibition is unique due to the interaction of the exceptionally preserved residential part of cultural and historical value and the extremely minimalist artworks of Jurj Dobrović, a respected Croatian artist and the last permanent resident of this house
