Zaostrog is the only place in the world where the sun rises twice during the same morning at one period of the year. The sun appears for the first time under the Viter hill, after which it disappears behind the massive rocks for about twenty minutes, and then it rises again. This is a unique world phenomenon that you need to record with a camera
For centuries, the healing properties of sea water in this area have been highlighted due to the specific mixture with mountain sinkholes and streams that flow there. Gynecologists from all over the world used to bring patients to Gradac in pre-season periods, when the composition of sea water proved to be the most beneficial for alleviating many gynecological ailments

Ancient Pagania
Do you know how the village of Zaostrog near Gradac got its name? A state, called Pagania, in the 9th and 10th century, when it was at the peak of its power, stretched from the Cetina River all the way to the Neretva River in the extreme south of Dalmatia. Apart from the mainland, it also included Pelješac peninsula and the islands of Brač, Hvar, Korčula and Mljet. Under the Viter hill above Zaostrog was the fortress Ostrog, which Emperor Constantine Porphyrogenitus named the capital of Pagania, and the town of Zaostrog itself was named after the fortress. Today, the remains of the fortress are visible, and there is a beautiful viewpoint
Zaostrog, Podaca, Brist and Gradac situated along fifteen kilometers of the coastline will give you a genuine experience of Central Dalmatia, its small towns where people still go fishing and work in the fields
