Parts of the film about the legendary Indian chief named Winnetou were filmed in the Trilj region, more precisely near the Nutjak fortress. The film is “The Oil Prince”, or in German “Der Ölprinz” from 1965.
Trilj was nicknamed the “town of bridges” because of the bridges that in the past made daily life much easier for the locals by connecting the two banks of the river. Most of them were built in the sixties of the last century, and today they have become a real tourist attraction

Did you know that Trilj is actually the cradle of football? According to historical findings, football was first played in the town of Gardun near Trilj. The official gazette of FIFA, the leading football organization, wrote about this. The tombstone of the Roman boy Gaius Liberius holding a ball in his hand was found near the Roman military camp Tiluria, and it is considered as a solid evidence that the first football in the world was played here. Today, the monument is built into the facade of a house in Vrlička street in Sinj
