Moro Palace

The Moro Palace, rebuilt from a former baroque palace of one of the noble houses that were built by the sea, in the 18th century. The palace was renovated by Anđelo Moro, who found his fortune in South America in the saltpetre mines at the beginning of the 20th century. The palace terrace is decorated with large Greek mythology character statues. The front façade, next to the sea, was very luxurious, and the landing at the end of the stairs was lined with statues of two lions, which became the symbols of this building. On each side of the staircase, there was a hollow space surrounded by a decorative fence, its floor was submerged bellow the sea level. As the sea penetrated inside, it was probably originally a “piškiera”, i.e., a pool of fish
