The sky above Vis in 1944 was not as clear as it is today. While American bombarders were returning to the south of Italy they used to circle around Vis and then land on the Vis airport to “recuperate”. Some did not manage to reach Italy and ended up in the Vis archipelago. Some didn’t even make it to Italy and ended up sunk in the Vis Archipelago. Years later, sunken wreckage of the B24 bomber and the Flying Fortress make an interesting dive for the visitors
