25-Paradise of Seget
The first signs of a new day, calm sailing into the harbour, freshly caught fish… You guessed it! As soon as you find yourselves by the sea, fishing certainly plays an important role. And while the population of Seget Gornji in the Zagora (Dalmatian Hinterland) part are engaged in stonework and cattle breeding, the inhabitants of Seget Donji on the Adriatic coast maintained a long tradition of fishing with a maritime heritage. The rich history of fishing can still be felt in the old core inside the medieval castle, and the varied offer of fish restaurants and local fishing crafts shows that the tradition is still maintained. However, some other interesting stories are hidden in this area. Observing the streets of the city of Trogir, you may have asked yourself – what is Trogir actually made of? The answer lies precisely in Seget and its six settlements. Enthroned on a rocky terrain where there are just a few trees and even less shade, Seget Gornji is crowned with the title of the best view of Trogir and its surroundings. In addition to the breath-taking panorama, there is also a quarry on the hill of Sveti Ilija that dates back to the Roman era, with which the tradition of stonemasonry was started in the area. So, the next time you see the popular Trogir palace, think about the possibility that the stone from which it was built originally came from the very hill that appears before you.
