186 – Cetina blues-rock

The city of Omiš is located at the very mouth of the Cetina River, whose course, in addition to its natural charms, also hides a rich ancestral heritage. In Kostanje, why not stop by the birthplace of Mila Gojsalić, who, according to tradition, defended the people from the Turks with her sacrifice, taking Ahmed Pasha and a number of Turkish soldiers with her to their death. The Croatian heroine also became the muse of Croatian artists, so from the slopes near Gata, over Omiš, a girl in bronze created by Ivan Meštrović, an exceptional world renowned 20th century sculptor, watches over Omiš. A number of armies and states have changed rule in this area. You will therefore be able to cross the Cetina near Podgrađe over the Pavić Bridge, which was built in 1902 under the Austro-Hungarian administration. Furthermore, by the bend of the river, with the protection of the mountains, we can find the Zadvarje or Dveri, as local inhabitants call it where the Duare fortress was one located in the Middle Ages. It certainly got its name from its strategic position, the natural passage – the gate – between the coast and the interior, where the Linea Grimani border between the Venetian Republic and the Ottoman Empire passed in 1701 after the Morean War.

Technical characteristics

The 68.3 km long trail with 983 m of accumulated elevation begins with the climb to Gata, which is not too demanding due to a number of hairpin bends and the average gradient is a gentle 4.1%. The subsequent challenge is represented by a number of short climbs of up to 1 km without steep gradients until the considerable 5.5 km long climb to Dubci, but with several flats where it is possible to rest and an average gradient of 4.1%. This trail is characterized by dynamic descents on hairpin bends with gentle gradients that will appeal both to experienced cyclists, and those less experienced will ride through them without excessive difficulties. The most dynamic is undoubtedly the descent near Zadvarje, which has four hairpin bends and leads you to the gorgeous Pavić bridge over the Cetina River. After Zadvarje, the rest of the trail gently descends by the sea, where impressive views open up, and the return to Omiš is physically undemanding. It is ridden on wide two-lane roads with medium traffic density and narrower local roads also with two lanes, but with low traffic. This trail can be ridden with all combinations of gear ratios, as there are no demanding and steep sections, but several gentle and long climbs.
