Central Dalmatia has been crowned with the prestigious title of European Region of Gastronomy 2027 as part of the European Young Chef Award event, held in Barcelona (Spain) from 24 to 28 November 2025. The title was awarded by the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism (IGCAT)

The official plaque was presented to Ivana Vladović, Director of the Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board, by Diane Dodd, President of IGCAT, and Cristina Massot, Secretary General of the Agriculture Department of the Generalitat of Catalonia.
“This is a moment that will remain in the hearts of all of us in Split-Dalmatia County. Dalmatian gastronomy is a ritual that goes beyond food itself—it is a table full of stories, conversations that last for hours, and flavours passed down through generations. This title recognises the value of our tradition and quality, and as a Tourist Board we will continue to promote Dalmatian gastronomy and the beauty of our region to visitors from all over the world,” Vladović said at the award ceremony.
In selecting Central Dalmatia as a potential European Region of Gastronomy, experts particularly valued public sector investments in agriculture and gastronomy, the development of sustainable practices, and the strong connection between the education system and gastronomy, agriculture, and tourism. In May 2025, the IGCAT commission visited the county, toured key projects and initiatives, and assessed the quality and potential of the region firsthand. Split-Dalmatia County successfully met all these challenges, as evidenced by numerous implemented projects in both the public and private sectors.
Winning this title brings increased visibility for the region in international media and provides an opportunity to present the authentic gastronomy and offerings of Central Dalmatia to a wider audience. A rich programme of gastronomic events is expected throughout 2027, serving as a strong incentive to attract visitors year-round and encourage longer, more engaging stays in the destination.
