121-Marjan Mountain Bike trail

The green hill that proudly rises up on the small peninsula watching over Kaštela Bay will reveal the incredible history, not only of the park, but also of its city to you. We can see that Marjan and Split have always been inextricably linked by the remains of the ancient Roman temple dedicated to the goddess Diana too, which dates back to before the construction of Diocletian’s palace, to which the road from the Spalatum of the time led. Riding through this natural oasis preserved in the very heart of this magnificent city will certainly exceed all of your expectations. Because its beauty, intertwined with its rich historical and cultural heritage, is protected multiple times: both as a park-forest and as a cultural property. You will see for yourself just how the city and Marjan breathe together to the fullest, from the first Marjan peak, from where the view of Split and its watercolours is breath-taking from 125 m above sea level… We will leave a sentence suspended in silence here as it is a view that will take both your breath and your words away! Moving on we go to Telegrin, the highest peak at 178 metres and a view of the Split Riviera, and then to the third peak and its 148 metres on the northern side of Marjan, facing Kaštela Bay.
And while you are catching your breath from the stunning views, we take the opportunity to remind you that you can visit one of the numerous churches, the Ivan Meštrović Gallery, the most visited museum in Split, but also pass through the interesting Labyrinth of Wisdom, created by children, in which everyone feels wonderful strength and energy, or visit the Zoo with its traditional breeds and feed the donkeys or some other domestic animal. If you would like to switch your ride, you can even take the Marjan donkey trail in the company of a real local donkey!

Technical characteristics

The ride starts on a flat trail, on fine macadam, along the Marina Tartaglie promenade. After 1.3 km riding on a flat terrain, a 1.2 km long climb begins with an average gradient of 10.5% with the steepest section of 100 m having a 22.1% gradient, leading to the viewpoint on Marjan. The return is the same way, and due to its steep gradients and the gravel surface, you should be careful when descending. Being just 5 km long, the trail is suitable for all cyclists, but the fitness of recreational cyclists may be tested by the climb with its relatively steep gradients. MTB, gravel and trekking bikes can be used on this trail, but we recommend using a MTB because of the slightly wider gear ratio on the steep climb.
