Alka
The Sinjska Alka is a Croatian knights’ tournament and one of the most important events in Sinj and in Croatia. It takes place every year on a Sunday in the first third of August, on the anniversary of the victory over the Turkish invaders on August 14, 1715. The rider, under heavy armour, on a horse, in full gallop, has to pass along a 160-metre racetrack with the aim to hit the centre of a small iron circle that is called alka. The height of alka is 3.32 metres, measured from its centre to the ground
Old town center and surroundings
The Town of Sinj is surrounded by beautiful mountains of Kamešnica, Svilaja and Dinara. It is situated at the edge of the fertile plain of Sinjsko Polje, which is invigorated by the crystal clear and cold Cetina River. In history, Sinj was on the border between two circles of civilization – Venetian and Ottoman, and it is precisely this legacy that makes up its cultural and gastronomic treasure
Church of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj
Sinj is the center of cultural life during the Feast of Assumption. Pilgrims from all over Croatia come the Church of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj. It is a famous Croatian Marian shrine built from 1699 to 1712, which has retained its original appearance to this day
