Dear friends and business partners,
As this year is coming to an end, each and every tourism worker will agree that it was one of the most difficult for the tourism sector, filled with uncertainty, fear of consequences for business, waiting for first guests and then gradual improvement of business in these pandemic conditions. As early as the beginning of September, there were repeated cancellations of arrivals, losses and new uncertainty. We welcome winter with even more serious epidemiological problems that have affected every segment of the economy, especially tourism due to numerous anti-epidemic measures, bans and travel restrictions around the world.
Therefore, December in terms of tourism – characterized for decades in the Split-Dalmatia County by lights, events, manifestations and mass arrivals of guests in anticipation of Christmas and New Year – looks different this year, but that does not mean it has to be less joyful. Tourist boards of towns, cities and municipalities have creatively designed programs for outdoor events in accordance with epidemiological measures, so our waterfronts, piazzas and squares shine decorated in a festive atmosphere.
The most complicated business year is behind us, in which 45 percent of last year's overnight stays was achieved in the Split-Dalmatia County. Despite the current epidemiological picture, foreign partners are announcing new airlines for 2021, and for the first time, airlines have decided to introduce foreign flights to Split during December and January. Foreign journalists in the media promote everything they have seen and experienced in our country, and we will adapt the promotional activities in the time to come to the new situation and communication opportunities. As most tourism fairs have been canceled, postponed to late spring or will take place online, we will focus even more strongly on digital promotion channels and social media to keep guests interested and focus on the nearest European markets.
These are all reasons for optimism and hope with which we are entering the new tourist year. With this positive attitude and the fact that we have shown that we know how to deal with problems in an unfavorable time in tourism, we are preparing for the 2021 business year in which safety will continue to be one of the basic prerequisites for making a decision on tourist travel. That is why we will do everything to make our guests in Central Dalmatia feel just that – safe.
In hope that 2021 will bring positive challenges, creativity in business and in travel to guests and hosts, I wish you a merry and blessed Christmas and a successful new year 2021.

After a significant drop in tourist arrivals and overnight stays in the first half of 2020, marked by the COVID-19 pandemic and interrupted travel around the world, the Split-Dalmatia County saw an encouraging recovery in July and then continued growth in foreign arrivals in August and partly in September. The drop in the expected number of arrivals and overnight stays occurred in October due to cancelation of numerous previously announced airline arrivals caused by the increase in the number of Covid cases in Europe and Croatia.
According to the eVisitor system, 1,231,126 tourists stayed in commercial accommodation in the area of Central Dalmatia in the first eleven months with 8,037,313 overnight stays. Thus, at the eleven-month level of this year, 34 percent of arrivals and 45 percent of overnight stays were achieved compared to the same period last year. In the first eleven months, most guests came to the Split-Dalmatia County from Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovenia, and the largest number of overnight stays was realized in the cities of Split, Makarska and Omiš, and the municipality of Baška Voda.
