The islet of Biševo is located on the opposite side from Komiža on the island of Biševo is not only famous for its supreme Plavac Mali quality wine and its beautiful sandy beaches but also for the Modra špilja (Blue cave) located on the eastern part of the island. In 1884 the cave's outer entrance was perforated and since then has been accessible to the public. Through the outer aperture, the cave can be entered by paddle boat. The other aperture on the south side of the cave is located below sea level and sunlight infiltrates through it producing the characteristic blue colour, and objects are reflected with silver. The Modra špilja (Blue cave) is a great tourist attraction of Biševo that appeals to many divers.
