Otok Šolta - Mrduja

Published in Culture and sights

Mrduja (or Marduja) is an islet situated east of Šolta and west from Brač.
The Mrduja regatta is named after its islet around which it is also conducted.
There is a story about the islet of Mrduja that says that the inhabitants of Brač and those of Šolta had a fight over the islet of Mrduja belonged to, and they both fastened a rope around it and each pulled to their own sides.
An event known as "Pulling Mrduja" has been organized by the Milna and Šolta Tourist Boards and their municipalities since 2008 which takes place between both islands. This event is held at the beginning of August.
