Otok Brač - Bunje

Published in Culture and sights

Small stone field houses - bunje -are characteristic Brač symbol and there are hundreds of them dispersed along the island. They are mostly situated near fields and were used by labourers whilst cultivating as refuge during the rough weather. They were built using the drystone walling technique whilst roof is fold up of stone plates. That method of construction hasn't changed since the prehistoric times. Numerous types of bunje can be found here – selfstanding, annexed to abundance of stone digged out of the fertile soil for easier cultivation, with lobby, adorned with numerous details or just simple ones. Every of them is a small master-piece and monument of cohabitation with nature.
