Omiš - The Franciscan Monastery

Published in Culture and sights

Fra Stjepan Vrljić, was the first monastery guardian who built this monastery with his own hands and left detailed information about it. Today's church, situated within the monastery complex was built in 1714 whilst the monastery was inhabited for the first time in 1718. Evidence of that is a chronicle written in the Bosančica alphabet telling how the Franciscans were forced, due to pressure from Turks, to build a monastery and hide there.
