More than a ride on two wheels
The 145 signed cycle paths with a total length of 4,500 km leading through lookouts, panoramas, mountains, island peaks and river valleys are a real challenge to all who love a two-wheeled experience.
You can choose between paths that are specialised for mountain rides and those more recreational trails for all generations and ages going through the picturesque areas. Supreme paths and ideal weather conditions in all seasons throughout this region provide excellent training conditions for professional cyclists from all over the world. The rivieras of Makarska and Split, the islands of Brač, Hvar, Vis and the Dalmatian hinterland are positively inviting you for a bike ride that you can take by yourself or accompanied by a guide. Along the way you will conquer the mountain peaks in the green hinterland of Central Dalmatia, follow the sources and river flows or discover the island trails choosing different cycling levels.
TOP BIKE TRAILS
The hardest trail – the one leading to the top of the Biokovo peak, which falls into the category of challenging and difficult trails and for which, besides having a good bicycle you need to be in good shape. Climb to the highest peak of St Jure at 1762 metres above sea level overlooking the islands and the interior of Central Dalmatia and you will certainly be rewarded for your effort.
The most popular trail – Game of Thrones is the trail along which most of the attractions are visited. It starts from Split Riva and visits Game of Thrones sites: Diocletian’s Cellars, the Antoničin mlin (mill) and Quarry (Žrnovnica) as well as Klis fortress. The trail also goes around the sites of the mouth of the river Žrnovnica, a stream in Klis field, source of the river Jadro, an ethno village, ancient Salona, the Vranjic and Marjan Forest Park. This trail is 55 km long.
The most scenic trail – Stara sela which meanders from Podstrana through Žrnovnica on to Gornja Podstrana descending through Gornja Duća to Omiš and back the same way. This trail offers a panoramic view of the entire eastern part of the Split Riviera, from Split to Omiš and to all the islands of Central Dalmatia.
The longest trail – The St George trail is a 180 km long road trail with an altitude ascent of 3814 m. The trail goes around all the inhabited places on the island of Brač as well as all the island’s attractions.
DO NOT MISS: the Recreational Race – XCM Marathon „Uvati vitar“ (Catch the Wind), which is a recreational race that takes place every year in May in the small town of Sutivan on the island of Brač. For all those who prefer „long-distance“ there is an attractive, 70 km long trail named „Bura“. Advanced recreational athletes should prepare for the „Vitar“ trail, which is 40 km long whilst the 20 km long „Bonaca“ trail was designed for all those looking for a leisurely ride with a view.
