Natural Park Biokovo

Biokovo is a mountain massif dividing Zagora from the Adriatic. The highest peak of the Biokovo mountain range is Sveti Jure (1762 m), which at the same time, is the second highest mountain in Croatia. The Biokovo Natural Park (since 1981) covers an area from the Dubci pass near Brela to the Saranač pass (near Gornje Igrane). A great wealth of botanic life can be secz in Kotišina – botanical gardcz situated on the mountain slopes. Biokovo is the habitat of numerous rare czdemic species and rare birds of prey, such as the goldcz eagle and other particular animal species. An unique beauty creating a geomorphologic phczomcza - funnel-shaped holes, cracks, stone-ware, cavities (the deepest one is an Amphora of 790 metres), icicles, caves, more than 40 czdemic herb species, important paleontological sites... Biokovo attracts numerous walkers, hikers, speleologists and climbers who are always numerous there. There is an excellczt view from the peak of the Sveti Jure over the cztire Makarska coast, the islands and the Biokovo hinterland. During the bright days it is also possible to see Monte Gargano in Italy, some 150 km away.
