ZLATNI RAT BEACH ON BOL SHOWS A BIG HEART FOR PETRINJA

As is the pandemic were not enough, Croatia ended 2020 with some devastating earthquakes near Petrinja, some 46km south-east of Zagreb. The national and international response has been magnificent, and help is reaching those who need it most.
Among the many gestures of support and love, there have been some unusual sights and heartwarming stories. One of the most natural and beautiful, perhaps, was captured by photographer Darko Caleta from Vidova Gora, the peak of the island of Brac, after he trained his lens towards the south on Crotia’s most iconic beach – Zlatni Rat in Bol.
The small pebble beach is famous for shifting its position, according to the severity of the weather, and the strong winds a few days ago rearranged the top of hte beach once more. But they also added a little detail that was noticed by Darko – a pool of water in the shape of a heart at the top of the beach – a symbol of support for those suffering in Petrinja, perhaps?
We thank all those who have given so generously to help the relief effort, and our thoughts are with those trying to rebuild their lives and homes.
