Spring in Split: Festivities During Easter Week
Easter is just around the corner, with a series of events announced by the Split Tourist Board, like coloring Easter eggs on the waterfront Riva, walking through the Easter Park, a music program, and traditional holiday delicacies on Easter Sunday!
The Split Easter program began on Friday, April 8, when the monastery of St. Francis and the parish of St. Stjepan and the Split-Makarska Archdiocese held a procession. This was the 29th year that this devotion has taken place in Split. The procession started in front of Sv. Frane Church, followed by Šperun, along Senjska Street towards the first Marjan viewpoint. The procession continued on the Marangunić promenade. It passed by the church of St. Nicholas, Our Lady of Bethlehem, and St. Jere, then to the Ivan Meštrović Promenade and the Church of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows. On Saturday, April 9, on Gajo Bulat Square, members of the Srdelica children’s choir performed, bringing children closer to the meaning and symbolism of Easter.
On Wednesday, April 13, at 8 pm, the Split Tourist Board and the Croatian Home are organizing a Lent concert by Dietrich Buxtehude: Membra Jesu Nostri Patientis Sanctissima BuxWV 75, Philippe Pierlot.
This year, the ever-so traditional Easter egg painting will be organized by the Split Tourist Board in cooperation with the Split Veterans Association section of Fine Artists. From Tuesday, April 12, to Friday, April 15, artists will paint enormous Easter eggs on the Riva from 10 am to 2 pm, which are then exhibited in Đardin Park. From April 8 to 18, all visitors can see these famous Easter figures and vibrant decorations in Đardin, made by the diligent hands of the Juraj Bonači Center for Education and members of the Split Veterans Association.
On Easter Sunday, the Split Tourist Board organizes a “Delicious Easter Morning” in Đardin. Along with music and a stage program, 1000 ‘sirnica’ Easter bread made by famous Split confectionery Bobis and 1000 Easter eggs painted by the Juraj Bonači Center for Education will be distributed to those in attendance!
