And still they come…
It seems every year is a record year for tourism in Split these days. Once known as the Gateway to the Islands, Split has well and truly been discovered and is now regarded as one of the hottest destinations in Europe.
A brand new airport terminal opened in July, the latest infrastructure project to meet the new demand, and the numbers keep on growing, with Split Tourist Board director Alijana Vuksic reporting that the tourism numbers for the first 9 months of 2019 are the busiest ever.
An incredible 837,125 guests visited Split during that period, with almost 2.5 million tourist overnights achieved. This was an increase of 8% of guests and 9% of overnights over 2018, itself a record year.
And part of that growth was from the United States, which is a lucrative market that is being targeted:
“The tourist traffic in Split in the first nine months of this year differs from everyone else in Croatia in that Split is the only city where Americans take first place throughout the year in terms of the number of visits,” said the proud Split Tourist Board director.
And still the season continues…
