More Split Records: More Than 5.6 Million Passengers on Ferries in 2019

Central Dalmatia’s booming tourist season in 2019 is breaking records all over the place.

Aided by the new terminal, Split Airport welcomed more than 3 million passengers in 2019, with the city itself almost registering one million arrivals for the first time.

And the records were being broken at sea as well, with more than 5.6 million passengers passing through Split Ferry Port for the first time.

“The total traffic of 5,616,000 passengers at the Split Ferry Port in 2019 is up four percent from a year earlier and is a record annual turnover,” said Vjekoslav Grgic of the Port Authority of Split.

“Throughout 2020, we expect a further increase in passenger and vehicle traffic of about three percent compared to last year’s traffic.”

The increase in traffic also coincides with an upgrading of the Jadrolinija fleet, and the State ferry company has recently taken delivery of a brand new ship from Greece, which will be put into service on the popular Split to Stari Grad route on the island of Hvar.
