At the mere mention of Croatian wines, a dependable name is „plavac mali“. Plavac mali the most widespread and economically most important grape variety in Dalmatia but certainly the most famous to wine lovers abroad. Mike Grgich, a famous Californian winemaker of Croatian origin, was convinced for years that the Dalmatian variety Plavac mali is a descendant of the famous Zinfandel variety. Years of research have resulted in the discovery that Zinfandel does indeed originate from this part of Croatia, more precisely, from Kaštela where an old vine was found, known as Crljenak kaštelanski, Pribidrag, Tribidrag.
