Vis Hib (fig pie)
This traditional delicacy was once an energy snack which housewives prepared for the farmers to take with them to work in the fields whilst today it is considered an authentic delicacy and the most popular souvenir of the island of Vis. It is prepared from dried figs mashed into a thick mixture with fennel and grappa. Almonds and various herbs can be added, and the final product is the Vis Hib, which can last for a long time. It is kept wrapped in rosemary or laurel leaves and today it is enjoyed as a snack or dessert, thinly sliced and served with fragrant local liqueurs.
