Varenik
A delicious thick sauce made of red grapes is called Varenik and was once used to sweeten dishes. It is believed that Varenik dates back to Roman times whilst in our country it was used particularly on the island of Brač where every autumn it was prepared using the carefully selected ripe black grape varieties that were cooked for hours. The result of such long-term cooking was a non-alcoholic syrup that was left to cool and then poured into bottles.
