For decades, the island of Vis was an island on which armies from various countries have resided, and it was also a military base for the Yugoslav army and for this reason foreigners were banned from visiting it until 1989. The labyrinth of underground tunnels, military warehouses and bunkers is still testament to the island’s past. The most attractive among them are – the rocket base Stupišćenear Komiža, the Vela glava nuclear bunker and Tito’s Cave below Hum hill in which Josip Broz and the partisan leadership resided in 1944, during World War II.
