A visit to Salona near the town of Solin, the largest complex of ancient monuments in Croatia, will take you back to the time of the Roman Empire, when a town of 60,000 inhabitants once stood there, being the headquarters of the Roman province of Dalmatia. A walk through the Salona Archaeological Park takes you to a Roman amphitheatre and impressive city walls with towers and gates. A forum with temples and the remains of a theatre and an early Christian church, built on the cemeteries where the Salonitan martyrs had been buried.
