For admirers of pirate history, a particular attraction awaits them in the town of Omiš – the 15th century Fortica fortress, located  303 metres above sea level. And it is thanks to this five hundred year old fortress, that it can be said that Omiš has remained unconquered throughout its long history. Fortica not only served as a lookout point to monitor both the entire coastal area and the hinterland, but it was also a shelter in case of danger. It can be reached in less than an hour by a path leading from the centre of Omiš. A beautiful view extends from the fortress covering the islands of Brač, Hvar and Šolta as well as the Cetina river canyon.
