Malacological Museum of the Franciscan Monastery in Makarska

Sea snails, shellfish and molluscs, corals and other marine species are an exhibition display at the Malacological Museum of the Franciscan Monastery in Makarska with thousands of exhibits. In addition to shells from our nearby sea, shells from other seas and oceans have also found their place in the exhibition: Hawaii, Oceania, California, China, Japan, the Caribbean, Australia, Madagascar, Tanzania, the Philippines, Indonesia, the Red Sea, Antarctica and the Great Barrier Reef. Today, the Malacological Museum, with its attractive exhibition display, is considered the most famous malacological collection in Croatia from a touristic point of view. It was founded in 1963 by dr. fra Jure Radić and a valuable herbarium of Biokovo plants are kept here.
