Imotski Cake

Imotski Cake is a traditional type of cake that has been prepared for more than 200 years in the wider area of the town of Imotski in the Dalmatian hinterland. This cake is prepared from ingredients that are characteristic to the Imotski region climate which provide it with its specific appearance and taste. For this reason, Imotski Cake is a product with a protected origin whilst the recipe is of the utmost importance for preserving the tradition of the Imotski region. Thanks to its specific appearance, it is also known as Imotski Imperial Cake. Imperial because the Austrian Emperor, Franz Joseph took it with him to Vienna, after a visit to Imotski and this is why the most important decoration of the cake resembles a royal crown.
