Hvar agave lace is specific to the material from which it is created (agave) and its exclusive connection to the Benedictine monastery. The Benedictine convent in Hvar is known throughout the world for its agave lace whose tradition is 130 years old and only carried out in this monastery. The painstaking work begins by extracting the threads from the fresh agave leaf which is then processed in a specific way. The lace is not made according to the usual design but each one is a product of the imagination of an individual nun and as such is a unique work of art.
