Central Dalmatia as a natural backdrop
Basements of the Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Roman Palace in Split, the river landscapes of Žrnovnica, the hinterland of the Biokovo mountain near Baška Voda and Klis, one of the most beautiful Croatian fortresses, were the natural backdrop to the struggles, intrigues, betrayals and revenge in the plots of this screened contemporary fiction.
The fourth season of the Game of Thrones television series was filmed in different locations in our region. In the Game of Thrones world, within the walls of Diocletian’s Palace, Daenerys battles against the slave owners and lords Meereen and Yunkai with her loyal army and her three dragons. Žrnovnica is the place where Daenerys’ faithful servant and interpreter, Missandei, was filmed when bathing in a stream, and the nearby quarry served as the site for the great fight of the Unsullied in the fourth season of the series. Klis fortress also played the role of Daenerys’ refuge…

The Game of Thrones Museum, Split
With its dark walls, dim lights and a dark atmosphere, the Game of Thrones museum was opened in the very centre of Split in Bosanska ulica 9 street. It extends over 300 square metres, providing visitors with more than 100 different exhibits among which swords, city models, helmets, costumes, skulls and the figures of life-size characters, from Jon Snow to Hodor to the beautiful Daenerys.

Split
On the streets of a 17th century old town with a historic centre in the palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, with heritage at your fingertips, you will be greeted with history deposited in numerous museums and galleries, and lots of fun and interesting events on the streets and squares. The cellars of Diocletian’s Palace have also been used as a film location.
Klis
Like a silent witness to centuries-old history, on a rocky cliff from which a view over Split extends, proudly stands the medieval fortress of Klis, one of the most beautiful fortifications in Croatia. During the long history of this, the most powerful Croatian fortress in Dalmatia, which was the headquarters of the first Croatian rulers, noble families and royal protection, but also the place where heroes fought and died in defence of its walls. It was a symbol of Croatia’s resistance to the Ottoman conquest, and a memory of the glorious days and it is cherished even today by the historical spectacles which still take place and the formation of the Klis Uskoks.
Žrnovnica
At the southern entrance to Split is the picturesque village of Žrnovnica whose nature, river and forests attract visitors for a trip and to enjoy its unique beauty. It is especially worth visiting the old water mills that for centuries were the main economic pillar for the locals.
Baška Voda
Drinking water sources brought the first inhabitants to the area of today’s Baška Voda four thousand years before Christ, and today a modern tourist resort on the Makarska Riviera that has been nourishing the tourism tradition for over a hundred years.
Kaštela
The particularity of the town of Kaštela lies in the fact that it developed around the forts – kaštela in 7 villages (Kaštel Sućurac, Kaštel Gomilica, Kaštel Kambelovac, Kaštel Lukšić, Kaštel Stari, Kaštel Novi, Kaštel Štafilić), and each place has its own peculiarities that characterise the Mediterranean region.
