Ancient football
Some of the earliest football in the world was played in the area near today’s Trilj! An ancient tombstone of a seven-year-old Roman boy, Gaius Laberius from the 2nd century, can be seen with him holding a ball with hexagons joined in the manner of a net-like ornament, which was discovered at the Tilurium site near Trilj, shows this. This monument is built into the facade of a stone house in Vrlička Street in Sinj. In 1969 FIFA acknowledged this monument as the world’s first monument dedicated to football.
