Numerous small churches strewn about the Marjan forest are evidence of Split's history. One of the nicest is surely the small church of St. Nicholas, situated above the First Marjan Panoramic views (vidilice), and followed by the church of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Kaštelet and a few historical churches on Kašjuni, such as the church of Our Mournful Lady. The church of St. Benedictine is situated in Bene, on Marjan whilst in 1096 the church of Our Lady of Špinut is mentioned, and is well known for the legend that every Saturday it is visited by angels.
