One of the town's symbols, celebrated in verses, Marjan is an omissible part of Split's history. Only in the last century, the Marjan hill was treeless whilst today the majority of this area is covered in Aleppo pines, inviting excursionists and walkers to take a rest and do some recreation in their shade. During the summer, Marjan beaches are crowded with bathers.
