Light Mediterranean cuisine is characteristic for this area. Fresh fish, quality olive oil and aromatic Mediterranean herbs are traditional bites. Not to be forgotten are the meat dishes, e.g. young roasted lamb from Klis, all followed by unmissable quality home-made wines. the charm of Dalmatian gastronomy lies in the fresh food prepared with just a few spices, with no experiments and mixing flavours. Just such a way of preparing dishes has made this cuisine recognizable. Authentic desserts like pepper-cakes bring the title Izvorno hrvatsko (Croatian origin) as an acknowledgment of their quality. Here you must also taste the rožata (a cake made with eggs, milk and caramel) and dried figs which is one of the oldest known sweets.
