Sumartin was founded by refugees from the Makarska littoral, escaping from the Ottomans' attacks in 17th century. Soon inhabitants started to do fishing, maritime affairs and shipbuilding which today, besides tourism, olive and wine-growing, are basis of Sumartin economy.
Tourism is based on almost untouched surroundings, beautiful nature, and clean sea as well as on pebble and sandy beaches. Gastronomic offer includes home-made food, fresh catched fish, gold olive oil and good wine.
